Netflix heard the criticism that its catalogue of Indian titles is too Hindi-focused and took it to heart. Back in January, the streamer announced a lineup of 18 Tamil and Telugu theatrical releases that would find a home on Netflix after leaving cinemas. Now we get the first glimpse at a half-dozen Original titles that will release exclusively on Netflix.

The news comes less than two weeks after Netflix quietly released the Tamil series The Game: You Never Play Alone — the streamer’s first Original Tamil series that isn’t an anthology of short films. Today’s announcement starts by acknowledging that South Indian theatrical releases like Maharaja and Lucky Baskhar are some of Netflix’s most-watched Indian titles in recent years. Netflix India’s Vice President of Content Monika Shergill says of the new slate:

We are excited and deeply committed to championing stories from the South across languages, cultures, and states. From our early originals to a diverse slate of films following their theatrical releases, the richness of storytelling from this region has been a cornerstone of our growth. We are now excited to bring the next wave of original stories, shaped in collaboration with emerging voices from Tamil and Telugu cinema, spanning gritty thrillers, comedies, rooted dramas, and cross-cultural romances, offering both depth and breadth.

Be sure to check out our HUGE Indian slate preview for the rest of 2025 and beyond. Here are the new South Indian Original movies and series coming to Netflix in 2026!
