It’s officially a wrap on the second season of Mara Brock Akil’s YA romance drama Forever. After an extensive multi-city shoot over the summer, the series is now heading into post-production.

Here’s a quick update on everything we know about the production’s conclusion, what to expect from the upcoming season, and when Keisha and Justin will be back on our screens.

Filming on Season 2 has Officially Wrapped

Production on the second season of Forever kicked off earlier this year on May 8th, 2026, and officially concluded today, August 28th, 2026.

Creator, showrunner, and executive producer Mara Brock Akil took to her Instagram Stories to celebrate the milestone and share her excitement about heading home to her family.

“We just wrapped season two of Forever. God is good. God is good,” Akil shared in an emotional video update. “I’m now packing so I can get in this car and go see my kids. I miss them so much. 80 days we’ve been producing this from LA to New York. I love it.”

A number of other cast members and crew members who went to the New York leg of the trip also posted over the past 24 hours:

Those who didn’t jump to New York wrapped their filming in Los Angeles a couple of weeks ago. Karen Pittman, for instance, posted on August 13th:

“Just popping on for a quick second to acknowledge my peers on my LA wrap on Forever S2. To this amazing LA crew and cast, some of whom I will see in NYC, but to the many of you I will not see, I’m deeply grateful to you for handling Dawn’s shenans and shenanigans here these past months. It’s a particularly bittersweet time in our industry, as we struggle to keep our heads above water here in LA, working long hours, arriving early in the morning, leaving late at night- spending weeks, months away from our families. You sincerely have my deep admiration, love and respect. Thank you for always being ready to roll. I will miss you.”

Pittman also followed up yesterday with another New York dispatch upon the wrap.

While Season 1 was highly praised as a “love letter to LA,” the 80-day shoot for the 8-episode second season expanded its horizons. Production spanned across Los Angeles, California; Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts; and as we now know, New York.

What to Expect From Forever Season 2

If you were wondering how the show would pick up after Keisha and Justin parted ways in the Season 1 finale, prepare for a time jump. Season 2 will catch up with the beloved protagonists four years later, dropping us right into the post-pandemic summer of 2023. According to the official logline, Justin and Keisha are doing pretty well—navigating new relationships, real jobs, and adulting—until they unexpectedly run into each other. The ultimate question for the new season: Can exes really be friends?

Lovie Simone (Keisha) and Michael Cooper Jr. (Justin) are both back to lead the series, alongside returning series regulars Wood HarrisKaren Pittman, and Xosha Roquemore.

We also have a trio of fresh faces joining the ensemble for Season 2:

  • Malaika Guttoh joins as a series regular, playing Ameena.
  • Avery Wills Jr. (Swagger) will recur as Jaden.
  • Tre McBride (Fight for ’84) will recur as Elijah.

When will Forever Season 2 release on Netflix?

While we’d love to say the show will be dropping by the end of the year, fans will need to be just a bit more patient. Forever Season 2 is scheduled to release in 2027. With an 8-episode order and filming having just wrapped in late August 2026, the series will need a standard 6-to-8 month post-production window. A Spring or Summer 2027 release date feels like it’s most likely.
