Nicole Kidman Returns To Filming A Family Affair

Netflix is doing some additional filming for its forthcoming romantic comedy movie A Family Affair which at one point was due out on Netflix in 2023. Scheduled for release sometime in 2024, we’ve got some exclusive snaps of the cast returning to film in California this week.

The news comes via BackGrid, which captured Nicole Kidman braving the bad weather on the set of A Family Affair with her co-stars Zac Efron and Shirley MacLaine at Vintage Market in Malibu. It’s unclear whether Joey King, another main cast member, has returned to filming.

Until these reshoots/additional photography, the movie had been in post-production following its initial shoot, between the Summer and Fall of 2022.

For those unfamiliar, A Family Affair is directed by Richard LaGravenese, with Carrie Solomon penning the script. The movie revolves around a “surprising romance” that kicks off comic consequences for a young woman, her mother (played by Kidman), and her movie star boss (played by Efron) as they face the complications of love, sex, and identity.

This isn’t the only Netflix movie with additional filming in early 2024. We understand that the Russo Brothers are returning to set soon for additional photography for the highly anticipated Millie Bobby Brown-led sci-fi movie The Electric State. In that case, it was not included in the 2024 slate reveal, but AGBO’s updated website still lists it for release in 2024. We also understand that The Deliverance (also known as Demon House) will have additional photography in early March 2024 in Pittsburgh, PA. That title was confirmed for release in 2024.

As mentioned, the movie was originally part of the 2023 slate, but we learned late into the year that its release date had been pulled from the schedule. At one point, the movie was scheduled for November 2023 according to the Netflix media center but we got confirmation from Netflix it had been delayed. Netflix last mentioned A Family Affair officially on February 1st at the Next on Netflix reveal, where it was included among the 50+ strong lineup of movies and docs set to release in 2024. Depending on how extensive these reshoots and additional filming are, we suspect we won’t see the film until the latter part of 2024.
