Ransom Canyon is currently deep in production on its second season, which received its official renewal over the summer although it wasn’t made clear at the time whether the series would be returning with 10 episodes like season 1 dropped with.

Cameras began rolling in September, but series star Minka Kelly recently took some time out to promote her new Netflix movie, Champagne Problems. During that press run, she offered a few teases for season 2, and the show confirmed that the upcoming season will drop to eight episodes.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Kelly confirmed the drop while teasing season 2, saying:

“We’re shooting it right now, so it’s been actually really fun and the season is really, really good. We’re all like, I think I like the season even better. It’s eight episodes now instead of ten, so they’ve really tightened up all the storylines.

So it’s just jam-packed with so much. There’s a lot more levity this season too, which I love. The levity to break the tension, which I find is such a nice relief sometimes when it can be really heavy.

We have some new characters this season that I think people are really going to love.”

We also got some behind-the-scenes insight from Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham on how big a production Ransom Canyon is, in addition to confirming the series is eying to wrap up shooting in January 2026, as we’ve previously reported.

In a post on Facebook, the Governor wrote, “The production will employ more than 700 New Mexicans, including 380 crew members, 40 principal actors, and 300 background talent. Stars Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly, who both grew up in Albuquerque, reunite for season 2, and filming will take place across Albuquerque, Las Vegas, Nambé, Santa Ana, Santa Domingo, and Santa Fe through January.”

Grisham is also linked to Netflix’s satellite site covering the production, given that the series films throughout New Mexico.

What else is new? Some recent casting calls suggest that we’ll see some of our cast heading to a festival in season 2, with Netflix casting extras for a live-music festival scene and seeking “real roadies“.

As mentioned, season 2 continues production through January 2026 (schedules suggest January 14th) with a late 2026 return highly likely. Beyond those new bits of information, we’ve had plenty of casting news as of late. Eoin Macken and Andrew Liner have been confirmed to be departing the series, with Casey W. Johnson upped to series regular. Newcomers for season 2 include Patricia Clarkson, Ben Robson, and Heidi Engerman.
