Welcome to your end-of-week roundup of everything new on Netflix US! As we head into the second week of August, Netflix has cooled down just a bit from its massive first-of-the-month drop, but still delivered a very solid batch of 42 new releases (26 movies and 16 series) over the past seven days. Here’s what’s new and what’s trending.
Whether you are looking for highly anticipated horror sequels, coming-of-age masterpieces, or the epic conclusion to a major literary adaptation, this week’s lineup has plenty to offer for your weekend binge. As a reminder, you can find out everything due to arrive on Netflix throughout August 2026 here, and you can find out what’s coming in September here.
Before we dive into the data to see what subscribers have actually been watching, let’s take a look at our three streaming highlights for the week:
Best New Movies and Shows on Netflix This Week
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 (2025)
Type: Movie
Genre: Horror, Thriller | Runtime: 1h 44m
The animatronics are back! Making its (partial) streaming debut, the highly anticipated sequel to Blumhouse’s massive video game adaptation has officially arrived. Picking up a year after the terrifying events at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, Mike (Josh Hutcherson) and Vanessa (Elizabeth Lail) must once again confront the sinister secrets of William Afton (Matthew Lillard) when Mike’s younger sister Abby is lured back to her animatronic “friends.” It’s a darker, deeper, and even scarier follow-up that is guaranteed to be a huge hit for the platform this weekend.
Eighth Grade (2018)
Type: Movie
Genre: Comedy, Drama | Runtime: 1h 33m
Bo Burnham’s brilliant, cringe-inducing, and ultimately heartwarming feature-length directorial debut is an absolute must-watch for fans of independent cinema. The film stars Elsie Fisher as Kayla, an introverted, anxiety-ridden thirteen-year-old who attempts to navigate the treacherous, socially awkward final week of middle school while hiding behind the facade of her “motivational” YouTube vlogs. It is a profoundly authentic, masterfully crafted look at the modern teenage experience that currently boasts a near-perfect 99% on Rotten Tomatoes.
One Hundred Years of Solitude (Part 2)
Type: TV Series
Genre: Drama, Magic Realism
The epic, sweeping adaptation of Gabriel García Márquez’s literary masterpiece finally reaches its conclusion. This ambitious Spanish-language Netflix Original continues to chronicle the multi-generational saga of the Buendía family and their connection to the mythical town of Macondo. Featuring breathtaking cinematography, incredible production design, and a phenomenal cast, this is prestige television at its absolute finest.
In the Land of Saints and Sinners (2023)
Type: Movie
Genre: Action, Thriller | Runtime: 1h 46m
Finally, ff you’re a fan of Liam Neeson’s particular set of skills, this gritty, Irish-set action thriller is an absolute must-watch, particularly given that most Netflix regions around the world have already streamed the movie exclusively on Netflix for quite some time, and thankfully, it’s now the turn of the US to see it. Neeson stars as a newly retired assassin seeking a quiet, peaceful life in a remote coastal village in 1970s Ireland. However, his idyllic retirement is violently interrupted when a crew of vengeful IRA terrorists, led by a fierce Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin), arrives in town to hide out. Packed with stunning scenery, a stellar supporting cast (including Ciarán Hinds and Game of Thrones alum Jack Gleeson), and the classic Neeson vigilante justice we all know and love, it’s the perfect Saturday night action flick.
