Nearly 90 series and movies are scheduled to arrive on Netflix this week with no doubt more on the way.

Netflix is beginning the month with an almighty bang. Close to 90 series and movies are scheduled to drop this week, including another Netflix awards movie contender, lots of licensed series and movies, plus Netflix’s highly anticipated Western series headlined by Lena Headley and Gillian Anderson. Here’s what’s set to drop in the US between December 1st and December 7th, 2025.

It’s going to be a very busy end of the year for Netflix as the streamer lines up some of its most enormous swings of the year throughout the month. We’ll, of course, see Stranger Things return twice throughout the month, with Volume 2 dropping on Christmas Eve and the series finale on New Year’s Eve. That’s in addition to big movies like Knives Out 3 (just saw this in theaters – very good!) and of course, the return of the NFL on Christmas Day.

For a complete look at what’s still to come throughout all of December 2025, keep it locked here on What’s on Netflix.

Most Anticipated New Releases on Netflix This Week

Narrowing this list down to just three titles is almost impossible, so we’ll be back tomorrow with even more recommendations from the December 1st additions.

The Abandons (Season 1)

Coming to Netflix: Thursday

We’ve seen Westerns surge in popularity in recent years, mainly due to Yellowstone and its showrunner, Taylor Sheridan. While the streamer has managed to license that show (and a few of its spin-offs) in most international regions, the streamer has also had a few swings at the genre itself. Earlier this year, we saw the release of American Primeval, and now it’s the turn of Kurt Sutter’s The Abandons, which has a mega cast headlined by Lena Headey and Gillian Anderson. They appear as the matriarchs of two very different families, going head-to-head after two crimes are committed.

Originally ordered for 10 episodes, the series saw its showrunner depart near the end of production, and the episode order was reduced to 7, which will drop as the big Netflix series for the week. We’ll have a full review later to see if the showrunner change hurt it.

Jay Kelly (2025)

Coming to Netflix: Friday

Director Noah Baumbach has been working with Netflix for nearly a decade. While not all of his projects will be everyone’s cup of tea, given their subject matter and sometimes execution, Jay Kelly is easily his broadest and most appealing film to date, with some big stars at the top of the ticket who have a proven track record of delivering for Netflix. Of course, there’s Adam Sandler, who has over a dozen projects with the streamer at this point, and George Clooney, who appeared in The Midnight Sky for the streamer five years ago.

Jay Kelly follows a fading movie icon who, after a crisis at work and a rupture in his personal life, embarks on an impromptu journey across Europe to reconnect with his estranged daughter, accept a lifetime tribute he never wanted, and confront the widening rift between the man he really is and the larger-than-life persona he has spent decades perfecting.

Ripple (Season 1)

Coming to Netflix: Wednesday

Ripple First Look

Picture: Lionsgate Television

There are a bunch of licensed shows hitting this week, including two from HBO Max, one from HBO itself, and a couple from AMC. Still, the one we’re going to focus on is Ripple. This Lionsgate Television series is following in the footsteps of The Hunting Wives and is hoping for a big viewership boost, skipping its original home, Hallmark+.

Created by Michele Giannusa and starring Sydney Agudong, Frankie Faison, Ian Harding, and Nicola Correia-Damude, the series logline is as follows: “Four strangers living in New York City attempt to navigate their lives after they each experience a pivotal loss, generating a ripple effect that causes their stories to interconnect.”
