Best New Shows and Movies Coming to Netflix This Week

Avatar: The Last Airbender (Season 2)

Coming to Netflix: Thursday

Ready to rumble? The Gaang is officially back! Following the smash-hit success of the first season, Netflix’s live-action adaptation of the beloved Nickelodeon animated series returns. This highly anticipated second season introduces fan-favorite earthbender Toph Beifong to the mix as Aang continues his perilous journey to master the elements. Showrunners have also confirmed a slight time jump this season to account for the young cast growing up, which means we’ll be diving straight into higher stakes, intense Earth Kingdom politics, and plenty of hidden alliances. Clear your Thursday schedule, because all episodes are dropping at once.

Little Brother (2026)

Coming to Netflix: Friday

If you need a good laugh to kick off your weekend, look no further than this wild new Netflix Original comedy. Directed by Matt Spicer (Ingrid Goes West), Little Brother pairs up two completely chaotic comedic forces: John Cena and Eric André. The film follows a highly successful, orderly real estate agent whose perfectly curated life is turned upside down when an eccentric man from his past—his former match in a “Big Brother-Little Brother” program—unexpectedly resurfaces.

So much buzz surrounding this film from people within Netflix and a few we’ve gotten to speak to who have watched already. Will it translate to wide appeal? We’ll get to find out soon.

The 24th (2020)

Coming to Netflix: Saturday

Making its way to Netflix this weekend is Kevin Willmott’s gripping and overlooked historical drama, The 24th. Co-written by and starring Trai Byers (Empire), the film tells the heavy, powerful true story of the all-Black Twenty-Fourth United States Infantry Regiment and the events leading up to the tragic Houston Riot of 1917. Facing a barrage of indignities and brutal abuse from a racist local police force while building a training camp, the soldiers are pushed to the brink.

It picked up a chorus of excellent reviews upon its release during COVID six years (!) ago. Robert Kojder for Flickering Myth wrote in his review, “It doesn’t quite pack as powerful a punch as Willmott’s works with Spike Lee, but The 24th is still very much a movie for the moment that pinpoints exactly why protests and riots are sadly still necessary”
