Sakamoto Days has cemented itself as one of the most explosive anime titles on Netflix, and the wait for its next chapter is (almost) finally over!

During Netflix’s recent panel at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, Director of Anime Content Yuji Yamano spoke at length about the show’s meteoric success. He highlighted that the series—which perfectly fuses mundane daily life with heavy-hitting action—crossed borders and instantly became a “global social phenomenon” immediately upon its release. It dominated the charts, spending a staggering 10 consecutive weeks in Netflix’s Weekly Global Top 10.

While lucky Annecy attendees were treated to an exclusive, embargoed sneak peek behind closed doors at the time, Yamano teased that Season 2 would bring back our beloved familiar faces alongside a brand-new roster of appealing characters. Most importantly, he promised fans that the upcoming episodes will deliver “significantly evolved quality and further enhanced action.”

Now, the rest of the world gets to see exactly what he meant.

Netflix just dropped the first teaser for the highly anticipated second season of Sakamoto Days, and it looks like our favorite retired hitman is going back to school. The brief but action-packed footage reveals the crew is on the hunt for “Slur”—a notorious killer who targets other assassins—forcing them to infiltrate the prestigious JCC Assassin Training Academy for intel. In typical Sakamoto Days fashion, the mission promises plenty of absurd hijinks, highlighted by Taro adopting a shockingly convincing disguise as a beautiful female student teacher. Packed with flashes of electric combat, dangerous new foes bound by JAA rules, and whispers of an impending “assassin revolution,” the teaser perfectly sets the stage for more high-octane chaos when the hit anime returns exclusively to the streamer in January 2027.

This new footage proves that the wait will absolutely be worth it. As we’ve previously covered, the first season of Sakamoto Days generated tens of millions of views, easily making it one of the most successful and most-watched anime titles on the platform. With a new target, a new school, and some serious visual upgrades, Taro Sakamoto’s next mission is shaping up to be his wildest yet.
