Carry On Most Anticipated Titles Coming In Second Half Of 2024

If you can quite believe it, we’ve now hit the midway point of 2024, and there’s still a lot to come to the streamer in the last six months of the year, including some big movies with massive star power and highly anticipated returning or debut series.

The following titles are featured in our massive guide to every new Netflix Original movie and series coming out in 2024, with a full recap of what’s come out so far and what’s still to come. Per our estimates, there are at least another 200 Netflix Original titles on the way from June through to December so get your streaming caps at the ready. We update that post every week or so, so bookmark it!

Narrowing down that list of 200+ to just eight is pretty difficult. But here are four movies and four series that are high up my list of most anticipated titles for the remainder of the year.

4 Netflix Shows To Put on Your Radar For Second Half of 2024

Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story (Season 2)

DAHMER was a big and much-needed hit from Ryan Murphy, albeit it was controversial, to say the very least. One thing Murphy is great at is spinning up anthology franchises, and that’s exactly what’s happening here with Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, which is one of two new seasons coming up.

Javier Bardem, Chloë Sevigny, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, and Cooper Koch headline the cast, and I’d bet on this turning heads again this Fall 2024.

American Primeval

Eric Newman and Pete Berg have been pretty reliable for Netflix over the years, with solid entries such as Painkiller, Griselda, and Narcos, so I’m looking forward to seeing how this shakes out.

The new scripted series explores the birth of the American West. The story focuses on Sara, a woman traveling with her son in a Mormon caravan during a bloody conflict involving Native Americans.

The cast includes Taylor Kitsch, Betty Gilpin, Dane DeHaan, and Shawnee Pourier.

No release date or window for American Primeval just yet…

Senna (Limited Series)

Every now and again, a project from a specific country catches the world’s attention thanks to its fantastic premise with a global appeal or tells such a compelling story from the incredible talent it’s impossible to ignore despite a language barrier usually representing a ceiling. Squid Game has broken that. Lupin has broken that, and countless others have, too.

We think that’ll be the case with Senna, a new limited series based on the famous Formula 1 racing driver whose legacy continues to shine bright today. With a cast from all over (representing the many nationalities found on an F1 grid), this new series is epic in scale and depicts Ayrton’s dominance on track and his off-track life, too.

There are conflicting dates as to when this might arrive. We’re currently told it’ll be sometime in late November 2024, but this is highly subject to change.

Squid Game (Season 2)

Speaking of that global hit, we round out our TV picks with Squid Game season 2. There’s not much I can really say to hype it up more, as the shoes it has to fill to get anywhere close to the numbers season 1 did are a mammoth task. Given our limited information about season 2 so far, it’s safe to assume it will still be an absolute monster.

All we know so far about the plot of season 2 is that it’ll follow Gi-hun, who has abandoned plans to travel to the US and begin a high stakes chase.

4 Netflix Movies To Put on Your Radar For Second Half of 2024

Sadly, this list currently omits some of the real most anticipated titles on my list, whether that be The Electric State (which sounds like it’s got a fair bit of work before it hits our screens), Havoc, Rebel Ridge, or The Old Guard 2.

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F

Eddie Murphy’s big return to our screens in recent years has been a joy to see. Dolemite Is My Name, in particular, is not only one of his best movies throughout his career but also one of Netflix’s best of all time too. Our anticipation for what we suspect is going to be one of the streamer’s biggest summer hits ever peaks just in time for the American holiday of July 4th.

Returning to the franchise after 30 (yes, 30) years, we’ll see Axel Foley pick up right where he left off after his daughter’s life is threatened, leading to an investigation that opens up a massive can of worms.

The movie’s stacked cast beyond Murphy includes Kevin Bacon, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Taylour Paige, Paul Reiser, and Judge Reinhold.

Spellbound

Skydance Animation Spellbound 2024

A frequent contributor to What’s on Netflix, Emily Horgan, referred to the Skydance Animation deal late last year as a game changer, dubbing the studio Pixar 2.0. The first project from that new relationship will come out later this year, and given the caliber of talent, it should absolutely deliver.

Directed by Vicky Jenson (Shrek, Shark Tale), this follows a princess who has to save her family and kingdom following a spell cast on her parents, which turns them into monsters.

I have high hopes for this and all the future projects from Skydance coming up, and hopefully, at the Annecy Festival, where Netflix will showcase the movie as part of its Next on Netflix presentation; it’ll only cement my anticipation!

Carry-On

We’ve only had a small glimpse of Carry-On so far, with the Next on Netflix video providing multiple stills, but given the star power in front of the camera in the form of Jason Bateman, Sofia Carson, Taron Egerton, and Logan Marshal-Green (which only scratches the surface), this is high, high, high up my most anticipated list.

“A mysterious traveler blackmails a young TSA agent into letting a dangerous package slip through security and onto a Christmas Day flight,” reads the logline.

The movie is currently rumored to be hitting Netflix around Thanksgiving, which is always a sure sign that they have faith in it being a hit. We’ll see how it turns out.

The Platform 2

Rounding out, we’ve got a movie sequel in the form of The Platform 2, which hopefully can match the brilliance of the first movie that was released on our screens back in 2019. To this day, that first movie is the fourth most-watched non-English movie debut in Netflix’s history.

Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia returns to the director’s chair for the sequel, and Milena Smit and Hovik Keuchkerian are confirmed to star. I don’t know much about what the sequel has in store for us, and that’s exactly how I want to keep it, given the unexpected twists and turns are why I fell in love with the first entry in the first place.

If this list isn’t enough, we also keep a list of your most anticipated movies and series coming soon with the help of the IMDb MovieMETER.
