October 2026 is all set up to be a significant month for Netflix departures. On the TV side of things, the streamer is losing over 550 individual episodes of television, including fan-favorite shows like Poldark, Nurse Jackie, and Shameless. However, it’s not all doom and gloom; Netflix has myriad other movies debuting in its library in October, including fan-favourites The Devil Wears Prada (2006) and The Sixth Sense (1999). Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)

When Tom Holland made his debut as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War (2016), fans knew they were in for something special. Holland quickly established himself as an MCU favorite. To date, he’s had four solo movies as Spider-Man, most recently this year with Brand New Day. His solo movies began back in 2017 with Spider-Man: Homecoming, and it was one of the best.
Homecoming picks up with Peter Parker around six months after he was bitten by a radioactive spider, taking on the moniker as Spider-Man. He’s in high-school, still hiding his vigilante identity from his best friend Ned (Jacob Batalon). However, keeping Spider-Man a secret proves difficult when he learns that the father of his initial love interest Liz (Laura Harrier), is none other than his enemy, the Vulture (Michael Keaton).
Spider-Man: Homecoming departs Netflix on October 1. After that, the only place to stream it is its primary streaming home at Disney+, along with every other MCU movie and series but don’t forget that Brand New Day will be heading to Netflix very shortly.
Gone Girl (2014)
David Fincher is among the most important and seminal directors of the last 30+ years. His projects span everything from Seven (1995) to Fight Club (1999), and later this year, he’ll debut his anticipated sequel to Quentin Tarantino’s classic Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, titled The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth.
One of Fincher’s most celebrated movies of the 2010s is Gone Girl, an adaptation of the novel by Gillian Flynn. Told in Fincher’s signature cold, dark, and atmospheric style, the movie takes place on the fifth wedding anniversary of Nick (Ben Affleck) and Amy (Rosamund Pike) Dunne; Amy goes missing, and Nick becomes the primary subject in a media storm surrounding the case.
Gone Girl was an immense critical success, and it won an unprecedented 65 awards and received 192 nominations. Over a decade later, Gone Girl remains one of Fincher’s highest-rated movies, boasting an 88% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
The Boss Baby (2017)

Alec Baldwin voices the titular Boss Baby in the animated family classic. The movie comes from esteemed director and voice actor Tom McGrath, the man behind beloved animated features Madagascar and Megamind. We follow Theodore Lindsey Templeton Jr, a business-savvy, suit-wearing, briefcase-carrying baby who pairs up with his 7-year-old brother to overthrow the nefarious CEO of Puppy Co.
The original movie spun out into a whole franchise, but the sequel Boss Baby: Family Business is not on Netflix. However, subsequent series The Boss Baby: Back in Business and The Boss Baby: Back in the Crib remain streaming on Netflix in the US. Believe it or not, this is Netflix’s most watched licensed title according to the Netflix Engagement Reports so fingers crossed it’ll be back very soon.
Apollo 13 (1995)

Earlier in 2026, the NASA Artemis II crew successfully executed their historic lunar flyby, and naturally, the media excitement about the mission directly impacted interest in Tom Hanks’ classic thriller Apollo 13 — and that is backed up by streaming data.
Directed by Ron Howard, Apollo 13 has a ridiculously stacked cast. It’s headlined by Tom Hanks, and also stars Kevin Bacon, Bill Paxton, Ed Harris, Gary Sinise, and Kathleen Quinlan. Based on true events, the movie takes place on April 11, 1970, when NASA sent the Apollo 13 spacecraft into orbit carrying astronauts Jim Lovell, Fred Haise, and Jack Swigert. The goal was to land on the moon. However, fifty-six hours into the flight, an oxygen tank in the service module exploded — forcing NASA to attempt to bring them home before it was too late.
Apollo 13 holds an exceptionally strong 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and it still holds up incredibly well today. It’s not just a movie, but an account of one of the most talked-about space missions in history.
Ghostbusters (1984)

The Ghostbusters franchise needs little introduction, right? Despite beginning back in the 1980s, it remains at the forefront of pop culture today. In 2022, Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation signed a deal to expand the beloved Ghostbusters franchise into animation. The deal is made in collaboration with franchise co-creator Dan Aykroyd, who is on-board the requisite projects as an executive producer. Fans will see the animated series Ghostbusters: Night Shift debut in 2027, and there’s also an animated movie in the pipeline.
However, the legendary Ghostbusters movie that started it all is dropping in and out of Netflix’s US library in October. It isn’t the only project in the franchise departing either, with Ghostbusters: Answer the Call (2016) also leaving.
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971)

Like Ghostbusters, Netflix is going in big on Roald Dahl stories; look no further than the upcoming anthology Tales of the Unexpected. Netflix acquired The Roald Dahl Story Company in September 2021. The streamer is also returning viewers to Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory too by way of a reality series called Wonka’s Golden Ticket, and subversive animated feature from Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok, Jojo Rabbit) titled Charlie Vs. The Chocolate Factory.
Despite going in big on all things Willy Wonka, two classics are leaving Netflix in October 2025: Gene Wilder’s seminal Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971), and Tim Burton’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005). It seems strange to be waving goodbye to these two classics as Netflix is investing heavily in the franchise, but that’s how it goes sometimes.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief (2010)

The two Percy Jackson films — The Lightning Thief (2010) and its sequel Sea of Monsters (2013) — were added to Netflix on June 15th, 2025 in a non-exclusive streaming deal. During their brief time streaming, they both rocketed up Netflix’s charts. On the week they were added, they reached 4th and 5th respectively on Netflix’s movie charts. Per our engagement tool, the movies have accumulated 22.3 million total hours watched — not bad for non-exclusive licensed titles.
Based on the novels by Rick Riordan, the Percy Jackson franchise has had a slight resurgence in recent years, thanks mostly to the highly-rated TV adaptation at Disney+, which returns for its third season in November 2026.
Both The Lightning Thief and Sea of Monsters are leaving Netflix on October 1. It’s been a brief, but successful run on the streamer.
Fargo (1996)

Before the award-winning FX anthology series (which has been on and off Netflix over the years, although mostly off as of late), there was the original Fargo movie in 1996. Created by the Coen Brothers, Fargo is a classic dark comedy. Starring William H. Macy, Steve Buscemi, and Frances McDormand, the movie follows down-and-out car salesman Jerry, who is drowning in debt, as he devises a bizarre plan. He hires two criminals to kidnap his own wife, forcing his father-in-law to pay a hefty ransom to set her free.
