“Woke.” The massively popular satire-drama will make its return for season 3! After a successful run of two seasons, it comes as no surprise that Netflix would renew for a third season. Here’s everything we know so far about Dear White People Season 3.

Dear White People first released as a film back in 2014 before Netflix adapted it as a show. Due to the nature of the trailer and the title of the series, there were a select few that perceived this as “racist” and called for a boycott of Netflix. The controversy around this only gave the show a larger audience. Once people tuned in to watch the series it soon became evident it was anything but racist due to its satirical and edgy comedy.

The series takes place at the Winchester University. Known for its prestige and Ivy League status, the university campus is also known for its predominantly white populous. Using an on-campus radio station, the host of the show, Sam, uses this as her platform to fight against the social standing.

What can we expect from season 3?

Season 2 concluded with Sam and Lionel being specially selected by a secret society known as The Order X. Very little is known about the order and the purpose of their existence. Could see Sam and Lionel clash with the order? Or will they join the secret society? Creator of Dear White People Justin Simien had this to say about the secret order:

I think we have to follow up what the Order of X is, what it means, what to continues to mean. The secret thing is something I want to build upon because it is part of the fabric of the school. I don’t know that I want that to be the focus of next season, but you can’t just run away from that storyline

The name Order of X could be taking inspiration from famous human rights activist Malcolm X. Was the order created by Malcolm? Or was it created in his honor after his assassination in 1965?
