Netflix’s highly anticipated historical drama Kennedy is officially in the home stretch. We’ve been keeping a close eye on the upcoming prestige series starring Michael Fassbender, and as production finally nears completion, we’ve got a brand new batch of behind-the-scenes photos capturing an emotional final day on set.
Filming for the sprawling JFK series recently drew to a close on a picturesque beach in South East England. Shot on what was the hottest day of the year so far in the UK, the cast and crew braved the heatwave to capture what is believed to be one of the production’s final and most poignant scenes.
In the new photos, we see Laura Donnelly (The Nevers, Outlander), who plays the Kennedy family matriarch Rose Kennedy, filming alongside Joshuah Melnick. We previously shared a first look at Melnick taking on the role of a young Jack Kennedy, and these new snaps represent a major milestone: according to sources on set, this beach sequence marked Melnick’s final day of filming. The photos show the young actor getting teary-eyed and sharing warm, emotional hugs with the crew. The series has been filming around the UK under the working title/code name of Victura since the beginning of the year.

The behind-the-scenes snaps also give us a fantastic look at the show’s meticulous period costuming. Donnelly is seen sporting a classic burgundy mid-length skirt and a sharply tailored tweed jacket with red velvet trim. Meanwhile, Melnick’s young Jack is seen heavily relying on wooden crutches—a historically accurate nod to the future president’s well-documented, lifelong health issues and back struggles.
It’s just the latest example of the massive production’s incredible attention to historical detail, which we’ve also noticed in recent behind-the-scenes glimpses of Michael Fassbender filming and our recent first looks at Saura Lightfoot-Leon and Louis Landau as Kick Kennedy and Billy Cavendish.
Eagle-eyed fans looking closely at the crew shots in this new batch of photos will also spot a clapperboard confirming that acclaimed Emmy-winning director Jessica Hobbs (who directed several standout episodes of The Crown) is helming these crucial scenes alongside cinematographer Baz Irvine. In between takes, you can even spot the cast and crew using small handheld fans and ice packs to stay cool in the sun.
Based on Fredrik Logevall’s acclaimed biography JFK: Coming of Age in the American Century, 1917-1956, the series is primed to fill the massive historical void left by the conclusion of The Crown by charting the formative years of America’s future president.
With production wrapping up soon, Kennedy is expected to premiere on Netflix next year.
