Following an early tease at Netflix’s recent animation showcase in France, Netflix, CD Projekt Red, and Studio Trigger have officially dropped the explosive new teaser trailer for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2. And yes, it is every bit as bloody, kinetic, and neon-soaked as you’d hope.

During the Anime and Adult Animation presentation at Annecy,  Netflix executive Jermaine Turner highlighted the massive impact of the original 2022 series. He noted that when the first season dropped, “something unusual happened. The video game had been released. It had, dare I say, a bit of a troubled launch, and suddenly became a cultural phenomenon again, all because of anime.” After proudly mentioning that the first season “went on to win Anime of the Year at the Cultural Anime Awards in 2023,” Turner set high expectations for the sequel, stating, “Now with Edgerunners 2, we hope to see once again that cyberpunk franchise become a global cultural event.”

This highly anticipated follow-up is officially gearing up to rip our hearts out all over again when it hits Netflix globally in Fall 2026. Audiences were treated to a teaser, which has now dropped after CD Projekt Red has been dropping assets throughout the week.

Here is a breakdown of what the brutal new teaser reveals, who the new crew of mercenaries is, and what you can expect from the next chapter in the Cyberpunk universe.

A Fresh, Blood-Soaked Standalone Story

The new tagline says it all: “New Legends. Same Night City.”

The teaser makes one thing immediately clear: Night City hasn’t gotten any friendlier. Driven by a track by Rico Nasty titled “You Can’t Run From Me”, the footage is a hyper-violent montage of rapid-fire shootouts, glitching cyberware, and of course, explosions.

As previously confirmed, Edgerunners 2 isn’t a direct continuation of David Martinez’s tragic arc. Instead, it’s a brand-new, standalone 10-episode story described as “a raw chronicle of redemption and revenge.” The overarching theme of the new season asks a heavy question: When the world is blinded by spectacle, what extremes do you have to go to make your story matter?

As Turner noted during the showcase, Studio Trigger has built its reputation on prioritizing emotional intensity above all else, ensuring that the personal stakes in Night City will always matter more than just the action.

Meet the New Crew

Because David’s original crew was almost entirely flatlined by the end of Season 1, this teaser gives us our first animated look at a completely fresh squad of edgerunners trying to survive the corporate meat grinder.

The new protagonists stepping into the crosshairs include:

  • Roman Carax: A young boy and avid cinephile who acts as a “witness to every legend,” prominently spotted clutching an old-school camcorder amidst the chaos.
  • Talia Yang: A fierce combatant rocking striking pink hair and a tactical face mask, seen dealing some serious damage and doing mechanical cyberware repairs.
  • D: A brooding, navy-haired netrunner marked by a harsh red facial scar and glowing green cyber-optics.
  • Weak “King” Kingsley: A towering, burly veteran edgerunner wearing tinted shades and wielding a massive, custom-painted heavy cannon, seemingly acting as the heavy muscle of the group.

The Team Behind the Screen

One of anime’s core principles is that creators matter just as much as the IP itself, and Netflix is fully backing the visionary talent returning for Season 2.

The vibrant, erratic art style you loved in the first season is back in full force, but with a slight shift in leadership. While Hiroyuki Imaishi helmed the first iteration, franchise veteran Kai Ikarashi (Little Witch Academia, SSSS.Gridman) is stepping up to direct this 10-episode run.

He is joined by an absolute powerhouse team, including returning heavyweights like lead character designer Ichigo Kanno (Delicious in Dungeon) and collaborator Masahiko Otsuka. Hugo Award-winning writer Bartosz Sztybor steps in as showrunner, while the original score is being handled by legendary composer Tsuneo Imahori.

When is Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 coming to Netflix?

Netflix has officially locked in a Fall 2026 release window for the new series globally. We don’t have an exact calendar date just yet, but given the drop of this teaser, expect a full-length trailer and a firm premiere date to surface by late summer.
