In just over 10 days, Netflix will debut its first major animated feature film based on the works of Roald Dahl. It’s been in the works for some time, but The Twits are ready to cause havoc. We’ve got new stills, the official poster, and the first official trailer for the film ahead of its release on October 17th.
In case you haven’t heard of the new film, The Twits is an animated reimagining of Roald Dahl’s classic characters from Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Phil Johnston. The movie hits Netflix on Friday, October 17, 2025, and is directed by Johnston alongside co-directors Katie Shanahan and Todd Demong, with a script by Johnston and Meg Favreau. Produced by Phil Johnston, Maggie Malone, and Daisy May West, the film comes to life through the team at Jellyfish Pictures, known for their work on The Boss Baby, The Bad Guys, and Netflix’s Wolf King.
In a release today, director Johnston wrote alongside the trailer, “On behalf of the massive gaggle of weirdos who made this movie, we can’t wait for the world to meet our strange, ugly baby.”
The trailer, which runs at just over 2 minutes and has the Kaiser Chiefs’ I Predict a Riot for it backing track, gives us our best look at the new movie to date alongside its animation style which is akin to that of Arcane, Wolf King and even a bit of KPop Demon Hunters, in that it’s highly stylized and presented in a way that somtimes looks like the animation is almost stop motion making the animation look snappy and stylized. I’d also note the lighting in the trailer given that’s easily one of the films best aesthetic choices making everything look incredibly vibrant or when needed, dingey. Kicking off with a throwback reference to The Lady and the Tramp, the trailer sets up the stakes for what is to come:
As previously announced, the impressive voice cast for the film is headed up by Margo Martindale and Johnny Vegas as the devilish Mrs and Mr. Twit, with other main voice cast members including Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Ryan Lopez, Emilia Clarke, and Natalie Portman. Additional voices include Timothy Simons, Nicole Byer, Jason Mantzoukas, Alan Tudyk, Mark Proksch, Rebecca Wisocky, and Charlie Berens.
The movie has a runtime of 1 hour and 43 minutes, and we have lots of coverage planned ahead of its release, including a review and a big interview with the director, Phil Johnston, who offers some fascinating insights into how the movie was made and shares some of the story. Stay tuned! For now, here are all those additional new stills (and poster) just dropped today alongside the latest trailer.
