Netflix Adds 30 For 30 Oj Simpson Documentary Series

The American football star turned actor OJ Simpson was announced to have died this week at the age of 76. The controversial figure was the subject of a murder trial in which he was cleared of double murder. Netflix in the US has licensed the famous 30 for 30 ABC/ESPN documentary series for two years.

It is important to note at this stage, the documentary series, titled 30 for 30: O.J.: Made in America, was only added to Netflix in the United States as of April 13th, 2024.

The addition comes after Netflix has been slowly rebuilding its 30 for 30 documentary library following its complete departure in January 2017. The news of 30 for 30, ESPN’s signature documentary series brand, returning to Netflix came back in December 2023 with a new deal bringing Disney-owned titles to Netflix in the US. Since then, we’ve seen two batches of titles arrive so far. A bunch were added in February and more in March 2024.

This 5-part documentary series, which is a surprise addition to Netflix hitting on April 13th, has a total runtime of 475 minutes, which comes just under eight hours in total and, to many, is regarded as the definitive documentary series on the life of O.J.

The documentary series holds an 8.9 rating on IMDb and went on to win an Oscar for Best Documentary Feature.

The series starts by detailing O.J.’s growing up in San Francisco’s projects and becoming a college football hero. It then gets into his career within the NFL and how he transitioned into a second career as an actor.

It then meticulously details the allegations and the trial that saw O.J. on the stand in 1995, accused of killing his ex-wife Nicole and Ron Goldman. This is all while the documentary takes a deeper look into the relationship between the police department and its relationship with the Black community.

O.J: Made in America was directed by Ezra Edelman and produced by Deirdre Fenton, Eric Leyden, Tamara Rosenberg and Caroline Waterlow.

How long will O. J.: Made in America stay on Netflix for?

Our intel suggests that Netflix will stream the entire five-part documentary series for two years, meaning you have until April 2026 to stream it.

You may also remember that Netflix was once the streaming home for the Ryan Murphy FX-produced scripted series The People vs. O.J. Simpson. It was added back in February 2017 and was available for 62 months before being dropped in March 2022. Considering the news, that series is not currently available to stream anywhere.
