I AM SPARTACUS. The classic film of the 1960s and the heroic tale of Spartacus and the slave rebellion were retold by STARZ in the early 2010s. Highlighting there is a market for R-rated and mature content on television, the historical drama was a smash hit. But more importantly, are all seasons of Spartacus available to stream on Netflix as of 2023? Let’s find out.

Spartacus is a series loosely based on the event of the slave uprising against the Roman Republic. The series was met with much fanfare when it aired between 2010 and 2013 but was not free from controversy due to its violent and hypersexualized moments. Controversy aside, the series brought a massive and loyal fan following and, with each passing season, brought bigger and better combat, wowing audiences worldwide. The series only ran for four seasons, which, in retrospect, was likely the perfect amount needed. Gave the audience plenty to binge but always left wanting more.

The Thracian Spartacus is taken as a slave after Roman invaders take his land and slaughter his people. Bought by the Dominus of Capua, Spartacus is soon forced into competing in brutal and violent Gladiatorial combat. As Spartacus’ reputation grows, so does the seed of rebellion that will eventually sprout to become one of the greatest threats Rome had ever faced.

Steven DeKnight was behind the series who in later years went onto helm Netflix’s Daredevil series that eventually went onto move to Disney+. A sequel series was announced to be in development at Starz with DeKnight returning for writing duties.

Four seasons released in total with those being labeled as follows:

Title Episodes
Spartacus: Gods of the Arena 6
Spartacus: Blood and Sand 13
Spartacus: Vengeance 10
Spartacus: War of the Damned 10

What happened to Spartacus on Netflix US?

Not anymore.

Netflix did at one stage stream all four seasons of the bloody historical drama and all its violence-filled glory.

Spartacus first arrived on Netflix US on April 14th, 2015 and after 61 months, the license for the series finally came up in January 2020 with all four seasons departing.

Since then, the series has been exclusive to the Starz streaming service in the United States which is available as a standalone or via channels on Roku or Apple TV.

Are other regions streaming the Spartacus series on Netflix?

When Netflix picked up the license to stream Spartacus it acquired the global rights to all four seasons. That meant that dozens of countries streamed the show but just like the United States, Netflix in all regions saw the series removed a month after the US in February 2020
