Dan Levy is officially returning to television with his first original scripted series since the Emmy-sweeping Schitt’s Creek. The highly anticipated Netflix crime comedy, Big Mistakes, has wrapped filming and is currently in post-production. Today, Netflix unveiled the official trailer, first-look images, and confirmed the release date. The eight-episode series is officially set to premiere on April 9, 2026.
Levy shared a statement expressing his excitement about the project when it was first announced in mid-2025:
“I’m so excited to be bringing this truly chaotic family story to life with Netflix. Thrilled with the team we’re building both behind the scenes and in front of the camera. Taylor Ortega is going to become a household name and it’s been my life’s mission to get to call Laurie Metcalf ‘mother.’ Looking forward to getting to share this with everyone.”
Big Mistakes will be the first show on Netflix produced by Levy since signing the overall deal with the streaming service and his production company, Not a Real Production Company. The series is also executive produced by Anne-Marie McGintee, Dean Holland, Etan Frankel, and Timothy Greenberg.
What is the plot of Big Mistakes?
Co-created by Levy and Bottoms breakout Rachel Sennott, Big Mistakes promises the perfect blend of Levy’s signature dysfunctional family dynamics with high-stakes hijinks. According to the newly updated official synopsis, the series centers on a misguided theft:
“Big Mistakes follows Nicky (Levy) and Morgan (Taylor Ortega), two deeply incapable siblings who are in over their heads when a misguided theft for their dying grandmother accidentally pulls them into the world of organized crime. Blackmailed into increasingly dangerous assignments, they clumsily fail upwards, sinking deeper into chaos they’re ill-equipped to handle.”
A first look trailer and first look stills were all released on March 12th:
The newly released trailer showcases the show’s chaotic tone, with Nicky and Morgan finding themselves cornered by a criminal demanding they return the stolen necklace [00:14]. The siblings’ hilariously ill-equipped reactions are on full display throughout the footage, from Morgan telling their kidnapper that the situation is “fully giving kidnap homicide” [00:31] to the pair stressing out on a boat ride as they realize the criminals might be taking them out to kill them [01:50].

When is Big Mistakes coming to Netflix?
Netflix previously confirmed a 2026 premiere during its Next on Netflix reveals, but rolled out a brilliant viral marketing campaign to confirm the exact date: April 9, 2026.
On Tuesday, March 10th, a mysterious billboard went up on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles, featuring a massive diamond necklace that simply spelled out “4.9.26”. Later in the evening, an augmented reality (AR) video of the necklace being “stolen” right off the billboard was posted on Netflix’s social media channels.
The very next day, the “thieves” were revealed when selfies were posted of cast members Dan Levy, Taylor Ortega, Laurie Metcalf, Abby Quinn, Boran Kuzum, and Jack Innanen—all wearing the stolen necklace!
