A brand-new anime series is coming to Netflix weekly in Japan from July 2, Chainsmoker Cat. There’s no confirmation on whether the series will be released on Netflix globally, but here’s everything we know about Chainsmoker Cat on Netflix.

Chainsmoker Cat is an upcoming Japanese anime series and an adaptation of the Japanese manga Yani Neko by author and illustrator NyanNyanFactory. The series is animated by Biburry Animation Studios and directed by Taku Kimura and Takashi Aoshima.

When is Chainsmoker Cat coming to Netflix?

Chainsmoker Cat will be coming to Netflix Japan from July 2, 2026.

The streaming service will also receive an uncut version of the anime, named “Evil Dragon Liberation Version,” which “respects the directorial intent of the original work.”

At the time of writing, there is no confirmation that the anime will be released on Netflix globally; it is currently confirmed only for Japan. In fact, no distributor has been confirmed for North America yet, so there’s a chance the anime will stream on Netflix, Crunchyroll, Hulu, or Prime Video.

“Welcome to Yani’s apartment. Please don’t mind the smell. Yani is a catgirl with a seriously bad smoking habit. Every time she tries to quit, she becomes weak to the cravings and gives in almost instantly. Behind on her rent and unable to hold down a job, her friends and sister rally around to help her out. But when she’s using her pee to put out cigarette fires, they may just have their work cut out for them.”
