As the sweet sun of springtime rolls in so do the Originals on Netflix. With April stepping up to be another great month of titles one special title on the way is in fact called Special. Here’s everything we know on the upcoming Original title Special, including the Netflix release date, plot, cast, and trailer.

Special is an upcoming Netflix Original comedy series based on the memoir I’m Special: And Other Lies We Tell Ourselves by Ryan O’Connell. The series has also been written by Ryan O’Connell to which he will star and act as an executive producer of Special. The central character of Ryan is played by O’Connell to which the focus of the series surrounding the life of Ryan and his experience of being a gay man with cerebral palsy.


What’s the plot of Special?

The official plot for Special has been given by production company Stage 13:

SPECIAL is a semi-autobiographical comedy about a gay man with cerebral palsy in his mid-20s coming of age by starting his first real job, beginning his first adventures in dating, and moving into his first apartment away from his helicopter mother.

Ryan O’Connell is making his acting debut in Special, but his previous work in Hollywood has been as a writer. O’Connell has writing credits for titles such as Will & Grace, Daytime Divas, and Awkward.

What’s Jim Parsons involvement in Special?

Jim Parsons, involvement in the series is as an executive producer alongside Todd Spiewak, Eric Norsoph, Anna Dokoza, and Ryan O’Connell. The Big Bang Theory actor has been very open about his sexuality and with his profile position as one of the biggest earners on television to date, he has done a great job in supporting the LGBT community in Hollywood.
