Slasher TV Series on Netflix: Halloween 2019

Scream

Seasons: 3
Episodes: 29
Cast: Willa Fitzgerald, Bex Taylor-Klaus, John Karna, Carlson Young, Tracy Middendorf

Based on classic 90s horror film of the same name, Scream was given the tv adaptation treatment. Perfectly embodying guilty television, Scream was a lot better series than many were expecting. The third season only arrived recently on Netflix and acted as a soft reboot for the franchise.

In the town of Lakewood, a recent murder of high school students brings back awful memories for residents of the town that had to deal with the brutal murder spree that was carried out years ago. As the body count rises people begin to question if the murderer has returned or is this a copycat killer intent on bringing chaos to the town.

Bates Motel

Seasons: 5
Episodes: 50
Cast: Vera Farmiga, Freddie Highmore, Max Thierot, Olivia Cooke, Nestor Carbonell

Vera Farmiga and Freddie Highmore really got to show off their acting chops in Bates Motel. It’s been highly noted that the strength of the series is carried by the chemistry and relationship between Farmiga and Highmore who portrays the infamous Norma and Norman Bates, respectively. At only five seasons, who can’t resist a good binge…

Set before the events of Alfred Hitchcock’s ‘Psycho’ sees the dysfunctional relationship between Norman Bates and his overbearing mother and what lead the young man to become one of the most infamous killers in cinema history.

American Horror Story

Seasons: 8
Episodes: 94
Cast: Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, Denis O’Hare, Kathy Bates, Jessica Lange

While many may disagree with AHS appearing in the list of Slasher TV Series, there is one season that certainly deserves the ‘Slasher’ classification. In the fourth season of AHS, Freak Show, the antagonist of the season is Twisty the Clown, and he certainly has no problem getting his hands bloody. There are seven other seasons to be enjoyed as well, not to mention by Halloween next year AHS: 1984 will be on Netflix!

Slasher

Seasons: 3
Episodes: 24
Cast: Dean McDermott, Joanne Vannicola, Paula Brancati, Christopher Jacot, Jim Watson

The name of the anthology series hits the nail on the head. Each new season brings a sadistic new killer ready to murder people by the dozen.

Slasher Movies on Netflix: Halloween 2019

Scream (1996)

Runtime: 111 Minutes
Director: Wes Craven
Cast: Drew Barrymore, Neve Campbell, Skeet Ulrich, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Matthew Lillard

Scream is a defining film of the 90s and has one of the most recognizable villains in horror movie history with Ghostface. A parody of the genre it so fittingly sat in, Scream was a revelation for the Slasher genre after its huge decline from the 70s and 80s. The series would go on to spawn three sequels and its own television series. While the franchise did drop in quality over time, the initial impact it had on the horror genre cannot be understated.

One year after the murder of her mother, a new sadistic serial killer begins to terrorize Sidney Prescott as part of a deadly game using horror films.

Candyman (1992)

Runtime: 99 Minutes
Director: Bernard Rose
Cast: Virginia Madsen, Tony Todd, Xander Berkeley, Kasi Lemmons, DeJuan Guy

A highly underrated classic from the 90s, The Candyman left fear in the hearts of many children afraid to repeat his name in the school toilets and sleepovers. Childish antics aside, the film, based on Clive Barker’s novel The Forbidden was a smash hit for its time at the box office. On a budget of only $8 million dollars, it made $25.7 at the box office. But more importantly, if you’re looking for something extra creepy this Halloween, look no further than the candy man.

The Candyman, a murderous soul with a hook for a hand, is accidentally summoned to reality by a skeptic grad student researching the monster’s myth.

The Babysitter (2017) N

Runtime: 85 Minute
Director: McG
Cast: Judah Lewis, Samara Weaving, Robbie Amell, Hana Mae Lee, Bella Thorne

The Babysitter received mixed reviews from subscribers and critics alike when it was released on Netflix in 2017. A personal favorite of ours at What’s on Netflix, The Babysitter doesn’t take itself seriously and knows how to play with the cliches of the genre while keeping you entertained. Not to mention a sequel is on the way and should be arriving in 2020.

After his friends suggest Cole stays up to spy on his super hot babysitter to see what she gets up too when he’s asleep goes disastrously wrong. Having witnessed Babysitter ‘Bee’ and her friends sacrifice someone in a satanic ritual Cole must fight for his life after they will stop at nothing to keep their secret from getting out.

Hush (2016)

Runtime: 82 Minutes
Director: Mike Flanagan
Cast: John Gallagher Jr., Kate Siegal, Michael Trucco, Samantha Sloyan, Emma Graves

Mike Flanagan has gone from strength to strength throughout his career, and one of his best movies to date was Hush. A fantastic take on the home invasion genre, the tension built throughout the film thanks to the lack of audio was sublime. It’s thanks to films like Hush that such films like A Quiet Place exist to this day.

A deaf writer who retreated into the woods to live a solitary life must fight for her life in silence when a masked killer appears in her window.

All the Boys Love Mandy Lane (2006)

Runtime: 90 Minutes
Director: Jonathan Levine
Cast: Amber Heard, Anson Mount, Michael Welch, Whitney Able, Edwin Hodge

Despite its troubled beginnings, All the Boys Love Mandy Lane was a great stepping stone for the career of Amber Heard. While it doesn’t have a cult status like other classic slashers, this B-Movie from the mid-2000s is entertaining enough for you to add to your list of films to binge.

After a pool party ended with the death of a student, Mandy Lane shook off her growing popularity and became a social outcast. A year later she is invited to a party in the Texan countryside to which she reluctantly agrees. Mandy’s friend Emmet, having suffered at the hands of bullies over the years, keeps an eye on Mandy as she draws more and more attention from the young males at the party. Soon the bodies start dropping as a killer is set loose on the teens.
