Castlevania season 1 is out now on Netflix and with it only being four episodes in length, you could probably finish it in a morning leaving you wondering whether season 2 is going to happen or not. Below, we’ll have the latest on all things Castlevania season 2 including its renewal chances, whether it’ll likely be canceled and when we can expect it to release on Netflix.
The reviews for the show, which has been adapted into anime from its original video game format, have been pretty good with watchers and critics agreeing they’ve done the IP proud. Where they both agree on, however, is how short the first season is. As of right now, the first season consists of four 23 minute long episodes. Even for anime series, this is really short.
The show is well produced coming from a team which is relatively unknown in the animated space more known for their work on Nickelodeon series instead. The series enlists the voice talents of Richard Armitage, James Callis, and Graham McTavish. It’s by far the darkest anime series currently streaming on Netflix.
Why was the season so short?
As you may know, the first season only serves as a prequel to the first game so in fact, it’s actually covering only new ground for the series. What Netflix is likely doing here is both testing the waters for the series while also gauging whether or not to go all in with a full series which would inevitably be a lot longer. Fred Seibert, the man behind the show said that “The goal is to bring hard hitting anime to the America and be America’s first animated series for adults.” That alludes to the fact that they’re breaking new ground and serves almost like an experiment.
Castlevania Season 2 Renewal
Official Renewal Status: Renewed! (last updated: 07/07/2017)
Netflix has renewed Castlevania on the day of the launch of Castlevania season 1 with great news for those looking for more episodes. Season 2 will be increased from four episodes to eight for its second season.
When would season 2 of Castlevania come to Netflix?
As anime and indeed animation fans will know, there’s a lot of work that goes into producing shows like this. That means to expect it to be released on an annual basis is somewhat realistic but given we’ve only had four episodes, it could be realistic in this case. That’d mean that we’d expect a new season to arrive in July 2018. If season 2 is much longer, however, you can naturally (unless they’ve already begun production ages ago) to predict that we’d have a one and a half to three-year wait on the project. That would mean it’d be at least end of 2018 before we see any new episodes.
