Review Scores for Sierra Burgess Is A Loser

Sierra Burgess Is A Loser Review Scores

The reviews have been quite kind to Netflix’s latest teen drama although they’re not up to the same high standard as recent titles like “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before”. It’s scored an average of 65 out of 100 across IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic.

Most reviews seem to highlight and praise a lot of the writing with the NYTimes saying “There’s sharp dialogue throughout” and The Los Angeles Times said: “The smart script and butterfly-inducing romance captures those sweet moments of falling in love — whether it’s with your crush, or even better, with a friend.”

Our Review

When compared to some of the other recent high school dramas that have released on Netflix it’s hard to see how Sierra Burgess Is A Loser would stand out in the crowd but it does manage to thanks in part from another exceptional performance from Noah Centineo. The movie is easy to digest but also features a lot of clever writing. In particular, some of the insults are especially hard-hitting.

Each character felt refreshing and didn’t fall into the stereotypes that most other movies tend to fall for. The characters also feel fleshed out dealing with their each unique problems in the world, not too dissimilar from real life. Despite all this, the movie is a little slow and a little predictable.

Everything Else You Need to Know About the Movie

Here are a few other snippets of information that you should know about the movie after watching.

According to an interview (seen below), the actual text and voice conversations over the phone were real with the actor/actress actually being on the other end of the phone.

Is the school real?

Yes, the school is real but their uniform isn’t the bright blue like it is in the movie. The movie is set in South Pasadena, California and the football team are called the Tigers too.

Did you catch the product placement?

The movie had possibly the most blatant and obvious product placement we’ve ever seen in a movie or TV series. Just after 41 minutes into the movie, Sierra and Dan are walking through the school hallways and Dan is holding, rather awkwardly, a box of Sour Patch Kids directly at the camera.
