The Magic Order Netflix Series Eyes March 2024 Start

Picture: Millarworld

The Magic Order was the first major comic book to be released under the Netflix banner, having acquired Millarworld in its entirety in 2017. It’s also one of the comics that’s been tapped to get a TV series adaptation but has been plagued with issues since its first announcement in 2019. In 2024, however, it looks like production is finally going to be getting underway.

As we’ve covered in our main preview for The Magic Order, the series has been in development since 2019. However, getting to a point where a production start is in the books comes after a turbulent few years for the project. It was delayed because of COVID-19, then scrapped, then put back into development, and no doubt the Hollywood strikes in 2023 impacted it somewhat, too.

According to multiple production listings, The Magic Order is gearing up to begin production at long last in March 2024.

Other production listings just give a broad Q1 to Q3 2024 timeline for filming, but all state that the series will be shooting in Chicago, Illinois, USA.

As a quick reminder, here’s the rundown of the comic book series that’s described as “Magic meets the Mob” courtesy of Dark Horse, which is now distributing the comic book series:

“We live in a world where we’ve never seen a monster, and The Magic Order is the reason we sleep safely in our beds. By day, they live among us as our neighbors, friends, and co-workers, but by night they are the sorcerers, magicians, and wizards that protect us from the forces of darkness, unless the darkness gets them first.”

Much is still to be learned about the show, however. Lindsey Beer was originally attached as the showrunner, with James Wan producing. It’s unclear if that’s still the case, but in 2023, we heard that Alex Meenahan (The Witcher: Blood Origin, Moon Knight) has been brought on board as the new showrunner. Netflix did not respond to a request for comment when asked last year about the change of showrunner.

More MillarWorld News Coming in March 2024

Not only will we see The Magic Order kick off with production in March 2024 – but we’ll also have a slew of news from Mark Millar on the future of Millarworld.

Numerous times on Twitter (X), the comic creator and president of Netflix’s Millarworld division has teased a slate reveal (presumably for both comics and TV/movies) for March 21st, 2024, including most recently at the end of January.

There’s a bunch of projects we’re waiting to hear about on the TV/film side that were announced many years ago at this point. We’re also waiting for future updates (if there are any) on The Chosen One and the anime series Super Crooks regarding whether they’re coming back for a second season. Other Millarworld properties set for adaptations include Huck, Prodigy, and Night Club, which are all reportedly in active development.
