Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan is likely going to be one of the hottest shows releasing in 2018. Season 1 is about to begin and as you probably know, Amazon is the producer of the series but will Netflix manage to get the rights to the show in the US at a later date or in international territories? Let’s find out.
You probably know Tom Clancy for his epic spy thrillers and war stories. They’ve been adapted in many forms over the years but Jack Ryan represents the first major TV adaptation for the novels.
Amazon has been spending a lot of money in recent years building up a libary of series to rival that of Netflix and Hulu. Some of their biggest hits include Man in the High Castle and the upcoming Lord of the Ring series.
Will Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan come to Netflix?
As you’ve probably guessed by now, Netflix won’t be the recipient of Jack Ryan. Amazon Prime exists in the majority of first world countries now and as a result, Amazon won’t want their primary competition to have its titles.
We don’t envision countries where Amazon Prime doesn’t exist to stream the title either.
What about Netflix DVD?
Sadly, even Netflix’s DVD service is unlikely to get the series. Amazon’s strategy with DVD boxsets is somewhat similar to Netflix’s. In limited cases, they release boxsets but in the majority of cases, the only way you can watch is through the internet with a subscription.
Titles Similar to Jack Ryan on Netflix
For those in the United States, here are a few suggestions. If you’re a fan of John Krasinski who is the key star in the series, you’ll, of course, know that The Office is streaming on Netflix which was a breakout title for the new Hollywood sensation. Other John Krasinski titles on Netflix includes the 2007 movie “License to Wed” which co-stars the late Robin Williams.
For those in the United Kingdom, the 2014 movie “Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit” is streaming that stars Chris Pine.
In terms of TV Netflix Original alternatives, there’s nothing quite like Jack Ryan currently on Netflix. The closest would be Shooter which is only a Netflix Original in certain locations.
