Netflix Originals Coming to Netflix in September 2017

September will be bringing some great Netflix Originals with the majority of the month being made up of updates to popular Netflix Original TV series. We’ll be heading back to Colombia to follow a brand new drug cartel, heading back to the Tanners to see what’s new there and some regions will be getting the brand new Star Trek series.

As always, this is by no means the complete list as Netflix keep a lot of their originals under wraps until later in the month. We’ll have a full preview for you later in September but we hope this gives you a good head start.

Narcos (Season 3)

Release Date: September 1st, 2017

Season 3 of Narcos is shifting from one drug lord to another yet this one is ten times worse than Pablo Escobar. Some of the cast will be carrying over from seasons 1 and 2 over to 3 as we now focus our attentions onto the Calli Cartel. Pedro Pascal will return as DEA agent Javier Pena although in the real world he wasn’t actually involved with the investigations. Other than Pedro, the cast is pretty much starting completely afresh.

Bojack Horseman (Season 4)

Release Date: September 8th, 2017

Slightly later than expected, Bojack Horseman is returning to Netflix on September 8th, 2017. Season 4 of the show has been shrouded in secrecy this year unlike its predecessors but we do know our favorite cast members will be returning such as Netflix veteran Will Arnett, Alison Brie, Aaron Paul and Amy Sedaris.

We’ve compiled everything we know about Bojack Horseman season 4 in our preview.

American Vandal

Release Date: September 15th, 2017

Clearly taking the aim at the likes of Making A Murderer is this satirical film about someone who draws paraphernalia in inappropriate places. Exploiting many traits that other documentaries do to evoke emotion has been used here for comedy effect. Whether this joke has the legs to last longer than the two-minute trailer is yet to be seen but it comes from the minds behind Honest Trailers on YouTube.

First They Killed My Father

Release Date: September 15th, 2017

Angelina Jolie directs this movie clearly designed to hopefully hoover up awards and takes many similar cues from one of the first Netflix Original movies, Beast of No Nation. The movie based on a memoir written by Loung Ung throughout the civil war in Cambodia. The movie was first released back in February 2017 but has its Netflix release for mid-September.

Strong Island

Release Date: September 15th, 2017

The only documentary announced for September so far is Strong Island. First screened at the Sundance Film Festival this documentary comes from Yance Ford who’s deeply connected to the film he’s making. Documenting the death of his brother and investigating the case as the murderer was allowed to walk free. This documentary will offer a very different approach to very topical issues.

Fuller House (Season 3 – Part 1)

Release Date: September 22nd, 2017

Netflix has been pumping out Fuller House in a frequent fashion since its debut in February 2016. Netflix is hoping to copy the release schedule from The Ranch and begin splitting the seasons into two halves. The first will hit on September 22nd with the first 9 episodes with another 9 likely arriving in early 2018. In case you haven’t heard of Fuller House, it’s a reboot of the popular 90’s sitcom Full House.

Star Trek: Discovery

All Regions Except US and Canada

First Episode Release Date: September 25th, 2017

We don’t usually mention Netflix Originals that aren’t coming out worldwide in these articles but for this title, we’re making an exception. Star Trek has been mainly in the movie world recently with several massive budget movies releasing over the past decade. The TV side of Star Trek has been slacking a little up until this year when a brand new series will be coming exclusively to streaming platforms. The series will be coming weekly to Netflix everywhere except the US and Canada.

Our Souls at Night (Movie)

Release Date: September 29th, 2017

This movie that reunites Jane Fonda and Robert Redford will first debut at the Venice film festival at the start of September before being added to Netflix worldwide at the end. Jane Fonda stars in Netflix’s series Grace and Frankie where she must adapt after her husband comes out as gay. In Our Souls at Night, her character, Addie must adapt after becoming a widower. She does adapt, however, after reaching out to her neighbour and kindles a new relationship.
