are seasons 1 6 of superstore on netflix

Superstore – Picture: NBC

Superstore is returned on NBC for its sixth season in October 2020. Up until 2021, the series had remained completely away from Netflix but multiple regions (including the UK and Canada) are set to get seasons one through five from January and February 2021 onwards.

Justin Spitzer is behind the hit NBC comedy (known for The Office and Mulaney) which airs on NBC every Thursday and takes a look at the lives of employees at a big box store. America Ferrera stars alongside Ben Feldman, Lauren Ash, and Colton Dunn. Season six began airing on NBC from October 29th, 2020 which is slightly later than its usual slot but that’s down to COVID-19 delays on production.

It’s been two years since we last posted about whether Superstore and the streaming landscape has transformed dramatically with NBC launching Peacock in the US. Given the direction of travel, we originally figured that Superstore would not be coming to Netflix.

Superstore will be on Netflix in multiple regions starting in 2021

Up until 2021, those outside of the US were hard-pressed to find Superstore streaming.

In recent years, Netflix has managed to secure international rights to many of NBC’s comedies. The Good Place is a Netflix Original in the majority of international Netflix regions as is the recently released Good Girls.

That was the case until January 2021 when it was announced that Netflix Canada would be getting seasons 1 through 5 on February 1st, 2021. Netflix in the United Kingdom will receive all five seasons of the show on January 15th, 2021.

Up until Netflix UK’s release, the show was only available on ITV2 and available to stream on ITV Player.

Why Superstore isn’t on Netflix in the United States

In the United States, the show is exclusively available on NBC’s applications (often requiring a cable subscription) and Hulu, which NBC Universal’s owner Comcast owns a part of. Hulu remains the best location to watch in the US with all six seasons available at the time of republishing.

Eventually in the United States, we suspect the rights will eventually default over to NBC’s new Peacock streaming service although that’s unclear when it’ll eventually happen. However, with Netflix internationally picking the show up, could NBCUniversal decide to license the show for a limited time to Netflix to drum up the cult following The Office had before it departed for Peacock. That remains to be seen.
