Among the big HBO comedy series at the moment is Insecure which entered into its third season in 2018. Sadly, the show isn’t available on Netflix and won’t ever likely hit Netflix. Below, we’ll take a look at the show, why it won’t stream on Netflix, where you can stream instead and some alternatives to watch on Netflix.

The series takes a look at the life of an upbeat millennial navigating the modern world as a modern-day African-American. The series comes from Issa Rae (who is the main star) and Larry Wilmore who is known for his other big titles such as The Bernie Mac Show and his time on NBC’s The Office.

Why Insecure Won’t Come to Netflix

As you’ve gathered by now, none of the three seasons of Insecure are currently available on Netflix. The reason behind this is the same as to why titles like Silicon Valley, Game of Thrones and Westworld aren’t streaming on Netflix. That reason is that HBO likes to keep its shows exclusive to its platform as it’s essentially direct competition to Netflix.

Despite HBO not being available in some international countries HBO still decides to put its shows on other networks but never Netflix.

Where is Insecure streaming instead?

HBO in recent years has caught up in the new internet age by allowing users to subscribe specifically to its service through the likes of a Hulu or Amazon channel or through its HBO Go service.

The same applies although with some limitations in Canada where HBO does exist.

Over in the United Kingdom, the series airs each season on Sky Atlantic and as a direct result, is available on the NowTV streaming service.

In Australia, the series is found on Foxtel Now.

Similar Titles to Insecure on Netflix

We do have good news for those missing out on Insecure on Netflix. There are quite a few good alternatives we can recommend.

On the Netflix Original front, there are two shows that are both comedies and feature a black female lead. I’m referring to “She’s Gotta Have It” and “Dear White People“. These two series are the closest you’ll get on Netflix and both have been renewed for new seasons.

Sticking with comedies with minority leads, “Master of None” is the biggest that comes to mind. The series features Aziz Ansari but unfortunately, the show is currently on hold for any future seasons.
