Magnificent Century, a Turkish TV drama arrived on Netflix a few months ago, but those who have researched the show will know that there are an additional three seasons left to be added. It’s one of the most popular shows ever to air in Turkey and seems to have found a big audience elsewhere thanks to Netflix. Let’s take a look as to when we’ll get more Magnificent Century.
The period drama set at the height of the Ottoman Empire covers the life of the longest ever reigning Sultan (rulers) and his slave wife. The series ran for four seasons but has yet to be renewed for a fifth, largely in part thanks to a TV station change in Turkey. It’s addition to Netflix has been relatively late.
So far, the series has managed to gain a 4 star rating on the service and a flurry of people coming to us for information on when the next few seasons will be added to Netflix.
Just to give you a timeline on when the show first aired in Turkey, let’s get you up to date.
- Season 1 (24 episodes) aired in January 2011 and ended in June 2011
- Season 2 (39 episodes) aired in September 2011 and ended in June 2012
- Season 3 (40 episodes) aired in September 2012 and ended in June 2013
- Season 4 (36 episodes) aired in September 2013 and ended in June 2014
Given how long ago all of those air dates are, it’s bizarre that Netflix has only picked up the first season. As for when seasons two, three and four will be added depends on the deal struck and who the deal was struck between. The show switched owners midway through season 2. It could be the case that the first half of season 2 could be added within the next year. However, if Netflix hasn’t or won’t manage
However, if Netflix hasn’t or won’t manage to secure the rights from Star TV, it could be the case that they won’t ever come to Netflix. Hopefully, that isn’t the case, but it’s a reality you may be facing.
We’ll keep an eye out for it and will continue asking Netflix for an official release date but for the moment, it’s hard to say.
