Season 5 of ‘Dragons: Race to the Edge‘ has just released and we’re sure that many avid fans have already got stuck in to find out what’s next for Hiccup and the other Dragon Riders. Below we will be covering where the series came from when we hope to expect season 6 of the show to release.

The franchise first debuted back in 2010 with the release of the film ‘How to Train Your Dragon‘ and its sequel four years later. Both films received large critical acclaim and were huge box-office successes. After this success, the ‘Dragons‘ universe was expanded significantly, and along with four short films, two video games and a live show, the ‘Race to the Edge’ series was born (Initially on Cartoon Network).

For the people who have only watched the films, ‘Dragons: Race to the Edge’ continues following the adventures of the young Viking boy Hiccup and his trusting dragon companion Toothless. Along with the other Dragon Riders, they must fend off the deadly Dragon Hunters lead by ‘Dagur the Deranged’. The show begins with our hero’s discovering a mysterious artefact named ‘The Dragon Eye’, which could open a passage to a whole new world of Dragons.

The first season released back in August of 2012 on Cartoon Network and was actually titled Dragons: Riders of Berk, not Race to the Edge. It was only after the second season that Netflix took over and renamed it.

Season 5 introduced a whole new villain to oppose Hiccup and the Dragon Riders, he uses his own dragons in an attempt to steal the precious artefact and lenses from them, in order to use them for evil. As season 5 ended on a bit of a cliffhanger many fans will already be looked ahead towards season 6, and when it releases. Unfortunately, the release date of season 6 has not been confirmed yet, but we do know that it will be the final season.

Especially for an animated show, the seasons have quite a fast turn around, there is usually only about a 6 month between each season. Using this rough estimate we have calculated that season 6 will be released sometime around February/March. We will make sure to update this article with any further news and confirmations when we receive them.
