Are Seasons 1 & 2 of Runaways on Netflix?

Marvel’s Runaways is coming back for its second season over Christmas on Hulu but as Hulu isn’t everywhere, does Netflix carry the show? Let’s take a look at whether you can stream seasons 1 & 2 of Runaways on Netflix.

As you’ll know Netflix has been the home to multiple Marvel shows in recent years. It has helped produced and publish the likes of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. With that said, they were produced for Netflix separately.

Runaways is the first Marvel series produced exclusively for Hulu. Marvel shows used to primarily air on ABC although that’s shifted in recent years.

Why isn’t seasons 1 & 2 of Runaways on Netflix in the United States?

The answer to this should be fairly obvious. Netflix and Hulu are competitors. The show is produced for Hulu so that means Netflix will never get the show.

Normally, when a show airs on TV, it can then go to either Netflix, Hulu or Amazon through a licensing agreement. That wouldn’t happen here.

Last year, Comicbook spoke to the head of Marvel TV about why Hulu was the ultimate home of Runaways.

He said “What we do with every show is we look at where the best place is,” adding “We were very excited about the possibility of joining a network that was young and growing in the same way that when we went to Netflix it was young and growing on the original side. It really feels like we’re in the right place at the right time with the right show.”

Are seasons 1 & 2 of Runaways on Netflix abroad?

Hulu only currently operates in Japan and the United States.

With that said, most countries outside of the United States have made individual broadcasting deals for the series. That means we’re not currently seeing or predicting Runaways to be on Netflix outside of the US.

For those in the United Kingdom, the series is broadcasted by Syfy and streamed on Amazon Prime.

In Australia, you won’t be getting Runaways either. Foxtel bought up the show’s rights meaning it’s only available on Foxtel Now.

Three countries are currently streaming Runaways, however. Argentina, Brazil, and Mexico currently carry season 1 of the show with season 2 likely dropping towards the end of 2019.
