Want to make Aquaman popular? Cast a badass like Jason Momoa in the role. A simple solution to help change the reputation of what was once a joke of a superhero. But will Aquaman swim over to Netflix? Let’s find out.

First of all here’s a brief history of the character. Aquaman made his first appearance in DC comics all the way back in 1941, but wouldn’t get how own serialization until the silver age of comics in 1959. It was in his first comic run the characters origin and backstory was fleshed out revealing him to be a half human and half Atlantan. Aquaman was also a founding member of the Justice League.

It would take decades for Aquaman to lose his reputation as a weak and feeble member of the Justice League. While his character did undergo a radical badass change in the comics, this failed to reflect in the opinion of pop culture. It wasn’t until Jason Mamoa was cast before previous opinions started to crumble.

Aquaman is the top performer for DC

In recent years the DC films have struggled to perform since the inception of the shared universe. Standing out amongst the crowd or if you will the ocean is Aquaman. Recently the film has become the highest grossing in the DCEU grossing almost $1 Billion worldwide. Wonder Woman previously held the record but Aquaman has smashed it out of the park.

So will Aquaman be coming to Netflix?

Well if you haven’t heard by now, Warner Media are releasing their own streaming service by the end of 2019. So while there are still some titles from Warner available on Netflix they will eventually leave the streaming service. Therefore with any brand new titles released from Warner, we don’t expect to see any of them make their way to Netflix US.

As for other regions Warner titles are spread out across multiple countries. You can still expect future Warner content to make its way to Netflix in regions like Australia and Japan.

So in Aquaman’s case, we don’t expect to see the Atlantean superhero to arrive on Netflix US anytime soon.

Would you like to see Aquaman streaming on Netflix? Are there any other DCEU films you’d like to see too? Let us know in the comments below!
