Welcome to your preview of the Netflix Originals coming to Netflix globally in March 2017. February brought us some great new originals but the one that stuck out the most was Santa Clarita Diet, a brilliant new comedy series. Next month, we’ll start to see some of the movies added to Netflix that they bought at the 2017 Sundance festival. In all, three will be added in March with more announced for the next few months.

We’ve also got the next massive new Marvel series in the form of the debut for Iron Fist. Love will get its long-awaited second season plus a live-action series based on a popular manga series.

Amy Schumer: The Leather Special

Release Date: March 7th, 2017

Amy Schumer is quite a divisive figure but never the less has exploded in recent years thanks to a series of big budget comedy movies and her regular appearances on HBO and Comedy Central. That’s not to mention her multi-award winning series too. Now she turns her attention to a stand-up special. In the special, she’ll talk about her drinking, relationship and how it is nowadays, being famous.

Burning Sands

Release Date: March 10th, 2017

Appearing at the Sundance film festival in January, this film was highly rated among the attendees of the festival. The film stars Alfre Woodard who appeared in January’s big Netflix release, A Series of Unfortunate Events as Josephine Anwhistle. The movie follows the college hazing process. It ensembles a cast including the likes of Trevor Jackson, Rotimi, Octavius Johnson, Malik Brazille and Mitchell Edwards.

Love (Season 2)

Release Date: March 10th, 2017

Judd Apatow’s second season to his first Netflix show has been long overdue. The second season will continue the on and off again relationship between Gus and Mickey. It’ll continue the stories of our two main characters as well as introduce new ones which throw even more spanners into their lives.

Marvel’s Iron Fist (Season 1)

Release Date: March 17th, 2017

The final Defender is due to get his own solo outing in March which will then leave the doors wide open for the four to team up later in the year. Iron Fist much like our other heroes has super strength and the ability to kick some ass but he is tied to a mythical being instead. Iron Fist is played by Finn Jones who is most commonly known for his role on HBO’s Game of Thrones.

Iron Fist has the most impressive powers so expect some great visuals in this series. We don’t know if there’s going to be any cameos from the other Defenders just yet but all signs point to this being one of the best Marvel shows yet.

Deidra & Laney Rob a Train

Release Date: March 17th, 2017

The second Sundance purchase is a crime film that stars Rachel Crow, Missi Pyle and Danielle Nicolet. It tells the story of two young girls forced to rob trains after their mother is put away in jail. After a successful heist, an investigator is hired to track them down and bring them to justice. Although the movie has a strong comedy element throughout, the message here isn’t particularly positive and showcases life for those without parents struggling to get by.

Samurai Gourmet

Release Date: March 17th, 2017

You aren’t able to find too much out about a new Japanese series heading exclusively to Netflix other than it’s based on a manga series of the same name. Honami Suzuki, Naoto Takenaka and Tetsuji Tamayama are all scheduled to be in this series. 12 episodes have been confirmed for the series that follows a retired man who discovers his love for food and drink.

Ingobernable (Season 1)

Release Date: March 24th, 2017

Releasing in March is the first Netflix Original produced entirely in Mexico. Kate del Castillo plays the role of the first lady of Mexico who is losing faith in her husband to bring peace. Early reports suggest it’s a mashup between House of Cards and The Good Wife and that sounds like a great combination..

13 Reasons Why (Season 1)

Release Date: March 31st, 2017

This brand new Netflix Original series is based on the book series of the same name. The story is of a girl who committed suicide but left behind a series of cassette tapes explaining why she deciding to end her own life. It’s a teen mystery thriller drama that looks like it’ll be a hit with all ages when it launches on the last day of March. It features a fairly new cast and looks to be most comparable with The OA. Selena Gomez is also one of the executive producers for the series.

The Discovery

Release Date: March 31st, 2017

The third Sundance purchase comes in the form of The Discovery.  It’s a mystery thriller directed by Charlie McDowell tells a love story a year after someone was able to scientifically prove that the afterlife exists. The movie stars Jason Segal, Rooney Mara, Jesse Plemons, Riley Keough and Robert Redford. The movie has generally mixed reviews from the festival but we think it’s a perfect fit on Netflix. The trailer alone has us intrigued enough to be super excited for the release.
