In February 2024, Netflix continued its significant push into live-event programming by streaming the Screen Actors Guild Awards for the first time. Netflix’s BEEF, The Bear, Succession, and Oppenheimer were the night’s biggest winners. However, you must act quickly to relive the live stream, as it will soon be removed from the streamer globally.

In case you missed it, all the biggest celebs gathered in Los Angeles for the annual SAG Awards on February 24th with Netflix streaming the event globally from 8pm ET or 5pm PT.

Netflix did not release any viewing figures for the live stream, although it didn’t pull in enough viewing hours to be included in the top 10 for the week. That said, the show featured in various countries’ top 10s for eight days. At least 36 countries had the live stream in the top 10s, including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia.

As you’ll now find on the Netflix page for the broadcast (which is an edited version compared to the actual live stream with a runtime of 2 hours and 10 minutes), it’s scheduled to be removed on March 23rd, 2024 with your “Last day to watch on Netflix” being March 22nd.

Does this mean other Netflix live events will leave the streamer? Well, it will vary from title to title, but we’ve checked all the current live titles, and they’re listed as being on Netflix indefinitely. That means that sports titles like The Netflix Cup and The Netflix Slam will remain, as will the comedy special from Chris Rock.

Netflix’s removal of the awards show may not be a huge surprise, given that many other platforms don’t hold awards shows for extended periods. Hulu, for example, has been the home of the Oscars for several years now and has removed the broadcasts it streams after airing on ABC after a select period. For example, the 95th Oscars ceremony is currently streaming and will likely be removed in the coming months.

Although the show is being removed from the streaming platform, many of its highlights are expected to remain on the Netflix YouTube account. Uploaded soon after the ceremony, you’ll find 23 clips in total, including Barbra Streisand accepting her Life Achievement Award, the Breaking Bad Reunion, and the Lord of the Rings reunion, plus acceptance speeches from the likes of Lily Gladstone, Cillian Murphy, Ali Wong, and Robert Downey Jr.
