Freddy Kreuger is without a shadow of a doubt an icon when it comes to horror movie villains. When he’s not invading the dreams of teenagers he’s definitely been invading pop culture for the past 4 decades. Since the release of the very first ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ all the way back in 1984, in those 34 years we’ve seen a total of 9 films of the dream demon franchise that haunts our nightmares.
What is ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’?
While most of the known world know of ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ there are some fortunate souls out there that Freddy is yet to haunt, so for those that are unaware of the, ‘The Springwood Slasher Exploits’ here’s everything you need to know about the franchise. The franchise is the brainchild from horror movie legend Wes ‘Sultan of Slash’ Craven, after previous success with horror films such as ‘The Hills Have Eyes’ and ‘The Last House on the Left’.
Set in the fictional town of Springwood, Ohio, the cruel and sadistic Freddy Kreuger haunts the nightmares of the residents of Springwood in revenge for his death many years ago. Known to the town as the ‘Springwood Slasher’ Freddy was a child murderer and had been released on a technicality. Angry at this ruling some residents of the town took it upon themselves to kill Freddy in for vigilante justice. Trapping him in the boiler room of the power plant he once worked in he was burned alive.
Are any of the ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ films available on Netflix US?
Unfortunately, none of the ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ films are available to stream right now and are only available to stream from Hulu. Even then, not all of the current films are available to stream on Hulu but the vast majority are.
With the popularity of the franchise still huge even after 30 years on, it’s easy to see why it is such a valuable commodity to any streaming service. Especially this time of year when Halloween is fast approaching.
What about other regions?
In the United Kingdom, only the crossover ‘Freddy vs Jason’ is available to stream. The remaining films of the franchise are available to stream on Amazon Prime.
For fans in Australia, only the ‘The Dream Master’ and ‘The Final Nightmare’ is available to stream.
If you’re in Canada then like the US, you’re out of luck. None of the movies are available.
