Prison Break made its long-awaited return in 2017 but will its new season, season 5 come to Netflix? Well, that’s a little complicated. Let’s recap the show, its history on Netflix and whether and when season 5 of Prison Break will be streaming on Netflix.
The gripping series tells the story of Michael who gets busted to help his brother, Lincoln, escape from prison using an elaborate plan. The first four seasons took us on a hell of a journey before concluding with an hour-long special at the end of season 4. The series was then announced to be rebooted with the unexpected return of Michael for season 5 seven years after it finished.
Since its return, it has been getting rave reviews and naturally, a lot of people are waiting to watch on Netflix.
If you’re a fan of Prison Break, you’ve no doubt already seen the first four seasons which are readily available on many of the major Netflix regions such as the US, Canada, and the United Kingdom.
So far (at the time of writing) the first six episodes out of the nine have been released and each week, they’ve put made available on streaming service Hulu in the US and NowTV in the United Kingdom. This makes sense as Fox owns a part stake in Hulu and also has exclusive ties to Sky in the UK.
Many of Fox shows were actually removed from Netflix US in April but Prison Break was one of the few shows which remained on the service.
As of right now, the long-term streaming plans have not been laid out for Prison Break although it’s likely it’ll be some time before we’re streaming. Hulu is Fox’s go-to streaming platform and unless Netflix coughs up some serious dough we can’t see it coming. The only chance of it arriving on Netflix is before a sixth season is aired which would mean an early 2018 release date would be likely.
We realize that may not be the best answer in the world but it’s all we’ve got at this point in time and we’ll update you as we learn more.
