August 2016 New Netflix Releases

Kasey Moore What's on Netflix Avatar

Welcome to your preview of what’s coming to Netflix in August 2016 and once again, it’s mostly dominated by brand new or returning Netflix Originals. There’s plenty for everyone but given it’s now the school holidays, you can expect a strong children’s lineup to keep the young ones busy over the break. As always, we’re going to pick out some of the highlights from Augusts additions and then give you the full preliminary list of everything currently scheduled.

New Addition Highlights

New Netflix Originals

A lot of debuts this month for brand new Original content and we hope that some of it is to your liking. Let’s start off with the brand new Original movie that was picked up by Netflix after Paramount decided there wasn’t enough of an audience for it. The Little Prince, based upon the book of the same name stars Jeff Bridges as he narrates a young boys journey through multiple different art styles.

Keeping with the kids, Project MC2 is back for a second season after much love for the first. The big hitter next month without a doubt is The Get Down. The show which will no doubt be compared to HBO’s Vinyl, is all about the 1980’s in Brooklyn.

New Movies

movies-august-2016-netflixLike most months, the majority of the big movie titles come on the first of the month and August is no exception. We’ve known about some of the big hitters such as the return of the Fast and Furious movies but we’ll also see the return of Sandler movie, Big Daddy and the third Final Destination movie. We’re also seeing more Star Trek in the form of the 2006 Star Trek: Nemesis movie content too which is never a bad sign particularly given the news of a brand new series exclusive to Netflix.

New TV Series/Documentaries

A much stronger lineup for the TV series with the updates to a few well-known shows. Starting off with the ABC hit sensation Once Upon A Time, which takes your favorite childhood Disney characters and plunges them into a dark reality setting, it’s been the subject to many awards in it’s lifetime and season 5 is scheduled to arrive very soon.

We’re also getting the first yearly update to NCIS, which will have its 13th season added on the first of the month. Documentary-wise, we’re getting three likely controversial documentaries next month, two of which are Netflix Originals. The Netflix Originals featured one on Donald Trump and one on Bullfighting called Fearless. Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth, which focuses on climate change, arrives on Netflix on the first of the month.
