New Release Highlights for February 2019
New Movie Releases
As always, the first of the month brings with it some of the biggest new movies to the service. For completionists, all three Jaws movies will be once again re-added to Netflix which means you can once again realize your fear of the ocean as you bare witness to the shark attacks that rocked the 1980s.
Those who love American Pie will often tell you there are only three movies, the first two and the more recent reunion. Fortunately, Netflix is adding these three on February 1st meaning we can now relive Jason Biggs sticking his thing in a pie.
Sticking with comedies, our third highlight is the 2011 comedy that likely missed most radars when it first released. It’s got an impressive cast with Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, Zooey Deschanel and Adam Scott on the roster. The movie is about one idiot brother who barges into the lives of his three sisters. Our Idiot Brother will stream on Netflix from February 26th.
New TV Series
With the exception of Jeopardy which is getting more episodes this month, Netflix Originals pretty much make up the entirety of the TV series coming in February 2019.
The biggest new release is the beginning of the new superhero series from Netflix called The Umbrella Academy. The series employs a massive cast who together reform as a band of misfit heroes after their adoptive father passes away.
Russian Doll features Natasha Lyonne reliving the same party every single day. This isn’t Netflix’s first attempt at recreating the magic of Groundhog Day but it certainly looks like it’ll be the one with potential. Natasha Lyonne has become a staple of Netflix with her appearing in Orange is the New Black, A Futile and Stupid Gesture and Handsome: A Netflix Mystery Movie as well as voicing a character in Big Mouth.
Our third highlight is the third season of the incredibly popular comedy series One Day at A Time which has gone onto win multiple awards.
