13 Reasons Why Season 3: Renewed for 2019, Full Release Date
13 Reasons Why is back for its second season and while it’s nowhere near as impactful as the first, many will be wanting to know about the status and release date of a third season of 13 Reasons Why. Here’s everything we know about season 3 of 13 Reasons Why including a prediction on release date if the series gets renewed.
The influential and popular teen drama struck a chord among millions when its first season landed in 2016. The drama focussed on a girl who left behind tapes that gave clues about her eventual suicide. The impact of the first season was felt far and wide and there was no doubt season 2 was coming to Netflix. Season 2 is now here and while it falls a little there’s still enough for most to enjoy the second season of the show.
If you’re in anyway affected by the contents of the show then Netflix has released some handy tools and resources to help you.
Season 3 Renewal Status
Official renewals status: Renewed (last updated: 05/19/2018)
As expected, we’ve now got word of the second season renewal.

The series got renewed despite the series garnering quite a lot of criticism in season 2. Uproxx’s review put it best where it says: ‘Hannah’s story was told last season — imperfectly at times, stunningly at others. And each additional reason, each additional season, dilutes the impact of when we first heard it.’
When will season 3 of 13 Reasons Why be on Netflix?
According to an interview with Dylan Minnette and Katherine Langford, the production schedule is quite tight on 13 Reasons Why. Katherine suggested that production on the new season literally started after they had finished touring during press. The reason we bring up the schedule is that it would seem that 13 Reasons Why is sticking it an annualised format much like other networks keep.
The gap between season 1 and season 2 was roughly a year and 2 months so if it keeps to a similar timeline for season 3, we can expect it to be here by next summer at the latest or March 2019 at the earliest.
What to watch in the meantime…
The story isn’t quite over for fans of 13 Reasons Why as Netflix simultaneously released another episode of ‘Beyond the Reasons’. Similar to many aftershow formats, the show features cast members, writers, producers and experts surrounding some of the issues the show tackles in a talk show format. This years movie was significantly longer clocking in at just over an hour.
There are plenty of other teen dramas to watch on Netflix in the meantime but none that cover issues quite like this show and focus on much lighter tones. Everything Sucks, the now-canceled drama is the closest equivalent.
