Portlandia Ifc Leaving Netflix

Portlandia – Picture: IFC

The second IFC show is now scheduled to be removed from Netflix in 2019. Portlandia seasons 1-5 are scheduled to leave Netflix in the US in September. Here’s why it’s expiring, where it’ll likely end up and some other Netflix recommendations.

Note (updated: 09/25/2019): We’ve updated this article to reflect only seasons 1-5 of Portlandia have been removed as of September 24th.

IFC has long been a partner for Netflix in the United States with a myriad of their back catalog still streaming on the service. That began changing back in 2016 when it lost the movies contract to Hulu and all of its TV shows converted to legacy contracts.

Portlandia is a sketch show that features the talents of Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein. Across the eight seasons, they played a huge variety of roles during their time. It was nominated for 4 Primetime Emmys and began streaming on Netflix back in 2011.

New seasons of Portlandia have arrived yearly on Netflix with the final season, season 8, arriving in June 2018.

The first IFC series to depart from Netflix took place in June when Todd Margaret left and we do believe others such as Comedy Bang! Bang!, Maron, Garfunkel and Oates and even Documentary Now! will eventually depart.

Seasons 6-9 remain on Netflix for now however they’re likely going to removed in due course.

Where will Portlandia stream next?

No official new home for the show has been confirmed although most IFC shows have found their way onto Hulu. Just last year, Hulu renewed its movie deal with IFC last year and therefore, that’s where Portlandia will likely end up.

Similar titles to Portlandia on Netflix

As we mentioned above, a few other IFC shows still remain on Netflix which are well worth watching.

Aside from those, we’d recommend giving I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson a shot as well as W/ Bob and David which perfectly fit in the same genre. Don’t forget Netflix currently carries the majority of the Monty Python back catalog too.
