Seasons 15 to 17 of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit are scheduled to leave Netflix in January 2019. The series is being entirely removed from Netflix after NBC has decided that its future is best served on another streaming platform in the United States.

Law & Order has been on Netflix since 2015 with regular yearly updates ever since up until 2017. Law & Order wasn’t streaming in its entirety either. Netflix typically only licenses shows when it can stream the entire back catalog. That was never the case with Law & Order with Netflix acting more as of a catch-up for the past few seasons.

In January 2019, three more of the previous seasons are set to leave Netflix. This includes season 15, season 16 and season 17 of Law & Order: SVU. All three seasons are set for removal on January 1st and this was confirmed too.

What exactly is going on? While not confirmed by Netflix, the show has likely been let go by Netflix in favor of Hulu. Hulu is part-owned by NBC so makes a logical home for its shows should another platform not be interested.

What does this mean for season 19 and 20 of Law & Order: SVU on Netflix?

It doesn’t look good. Seasons 19 and 20 would’ve come out in the summer of 2018 and summer of 2019 respectively but with the series shifting to Hulu, that’s no longer the case.

If you are a Hulu member, however, you won’t have extraordinarily long waits to catch up on new episodes as Hulu gains new episodes the day after it airs in the United States.

When will season 18 of Law & Order: SVU leave Netflix?

Updated: Season 18 is scheduled to leave Netflix in March 2019.

Season 18 of SVU will remain on Netflix throughout 2019 but will likely then leave in January 2020. We can’t foresee it staying.

NBC does continue to work on Netflix, however. It licenses the majority of its comedy output to Netflix and has four shows scheduled for release on Netflix throughout 2019.
